Things to do and see

Gladestry itself is steeped in history being on the ancient Drovers path from deepest Wales to the London markets. Archaeological sites abound and all the local history/gossip can be debated in the convivial atmosphere of the local pub.

Kington (5 miles) is a bustling market town over 1000 years old. Life does not change quickly here and many ancient buildings and traditions remain. The shops are a treat and a visit to Hergest Gardens strongly recommended.

Hay-on-Wye (8 miles) enjoys an international reputation for its unmatched selection of shops selling new and used books. It hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year and offers some of the best canoeing in the country

Walking, and in particular the Offa's Dyke path, is a major attraction of the area. However the magnificent scenery can also be enjoyed from the car - including the famous Black and White village trail. Cyclists will find quiet roads and unspoilt tracks to delight them and golfers can enjoy a round on the highest course in England! Other sporting activities include horse riding and ballooning, while for the less energetic there are craft workshops, wonderful old churches to visit and a whole variety of excellent places to eat. In all, something for everyone!
